From Academia to Action: A Thesis That Launched a Career

Born and raised in Münster, in North-West Germany, Philipp always had a curiosity that spanned both technical and business disciplines. Choosing industrial engineering as his major—a blend of technical expertise and business strategy—he sought an education that would leave no door closed.

His professional journey began at Panasonic, where he wrote his diploma thesis on a go-to-market strategy for new technology in Europe. After presenting his thesis to the management team, he was offered a chance to bring his plan to life as a sales manager. “It was an incredible opportunity to see my ideas put into action,” he recalls. His passion for leadership and sales flourished, taking him through roles in product management and software sales, including a key leadership position at IDnow.

From IDnow to Signicat: Shaping the Future of Identity in DACH

Joining Signicat in 2024 was a natural next step for Philipp. “Signicat has always stood out as one of the most exciting players in the European identity space,” he shares. With industry knowledge and partner management skills honed at IDnow, he was drawn to Signicat’s tech stack, strategy, and, most importantly, its people and culture.

“The opportunity to grow Signicat’s presence in the DACH region is like building something from scratch,” he says. “And selling great products? That’s always fun.”

Building Blocks of Success: Teams, Brands, and Collaboration

For Philipp, his role is all about freedom and creativity. “Whether it’s Lego or teams and revenue, I’ve always loved building things,” he explains. Currently, his focus is on forming a strong team that understands the unique needs of the DACH region and investing in brand building to create awareness and trust among customers.

While the region’s unique requirements for identity verification present challenges, he sees collaboration with Signicat’s regional product managers as a key strength. “We work closely every day, which boosts the process and ensures we meet our customers’ needs.”

Recharge, Lead, Succeed: ‘I Am the Most Important Person in My Life’

With a love for outdoor activities like skiing, cycling, and mountaineering, Philipp finds balance by embracing the mountains surrounding his home in Munich. “Being close to the outdoors is essential for my well-being,” he shares. Whether it’s exploring the trails on a gravel bike or spending time with his family in the garden, he prioritizes time to recharge.

This commitment to balance extends to his philosophy on life, inspired by a motto he discovered while walking the Camino de Santiago: “I am the most important person in my life.” Initially, he thought the phrase sounded selfish, but he soon realized its deeper meaning. “If I’m well and full of energy, I can be a better father, husband, manager, and partner to my customers. Self-care is the foundation for everything.”

‘Day 1’ Mindset

With the “Day 1” spirit that fuels his work ethic, Philipp is excited to lead Signicat’s growth in the DACH region. “The best part of this journey is that we’re just getting started,” he says. For Philipp, building something great is more than a job—it’s a passion.
